Volunteer Medical Advocates

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging is part of Maine's Senior Medicare Patrol. The Senior Medicare Patrol is a coalition of health and social services, government, insurance and advocacy organizations working together to educate Maine consumers about Medicare and MaineCare. The Senior Medicare Patrol recruits and trains volunteers to become Medicare Advocates that help Maine people to maximize Medicare and MaineCare benefits. They also help identify errors on your health care bills.

The Role of Medicare Advocates

Volunteer Medicare Advocates are trained to:

  • Provide health insurance counseling.
Help Medicare beneficiaries understand statements mailed to them.
  • Speak to groups about Medicare and MaineCare.
  • Attend community events to give out information.
  • Visit people at home when needed.

If you would like to become a Volunteer Medicare Advocate or learn more, contact Carol Rancourt at 396-6547 1-800-427-7411, ext. 547
